The system was created in the United States in 1998 by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and has currently reached its fourth version, released in 2013 and destined to replace all other circulating versions starting from mid-2015.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The LEED system was created to:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • define the concept of \u201cgreen building\u201d according to a shared standard;<\/li>\n
  • promote virtuous design practices;<\/li>\n
  • identify and reward companies in the construction sector which prove their sensitivity towards the environment;<\/li>\n
  • stimulate competition in the development of designs and materials;<\/li>\n
  • increase the perception of the benefits of so-called green architecture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

     <\/p>\n

    The LEED system is based on the combined evaluation of a series of prerequisites and credits, divided into sections. The prerequisites of each section are mandatory for inclusion in the classification; credits vary according to the characteristics of the project. The sum of the credit scores (from a minimum of 40 to a maximum of 100 points) determines the certification level: Basic, Silver, Gold and Platinum.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    The areas taken into consideration for assigning credits are the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    • SS<\/strong>\u00a0Sustainability of the worksite<\/li>\n
    • GA<\/strong>\u00a0Water management<\/li>\n
    • EA<\/strong>\u00a0Energy and atmosphere<\/li>\n
    • MR<\/strong>\u00a0Materials and resources<\/li>\n
    • QI<\/strong>\u00a0Quality of internal air<\/li>\n
    • IP<\/strong>\u00a0Design innovation<\/li>\n
    • PR<\/strong>\u00a0Regional priority<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

       <\/p>\n

      The LEED system does not regard the zintek\u00ae laminate directly, but does involve it as an element which can help obtain credits.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

          • EA1<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Optimization of energy performances<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
          • MR<\/strong>\u00a0Materials and resources:\n
              \n
            • MRc4<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Recycled content<\/li>\n
            • MRc5<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Materials extracted, processed and produced at close distance (for projects within 350 km from the production centre)<\/li>\n
